We are all victims of bias. Most people lack due diligence to investigate why they know what they know. Unfortunately, we end up having a prejudice against people who are otherwise not who we perceive them to be. A perfect example is Jason Guck. After the media dragged his name through the mud, most people have a corrupted idea of who he is. This article is a list of 7 common prejudices against Jason Guck.

1. He is a Fraudster

This is a common misconception ever since the 5-Linx incident. Very few people are aware that Mr. Guck had little to do with his conviction. The case was that, in 2012, the company had filled taxes wrongly which led to the defrauding of investors. However, at the time, Mr. Guck was the executive vice president in the sales division. The two departments are remotely related. Mr. Guck was tied to the incident mainly because he is one of the company’s cofounders. When it comes to Mr. Guck, a very few may say that he is a fraudster, but some will definitely agree that he’s not. You’ll hear many stories about how he has significantly impacted their lives in a positive way.

2. He works pyramid schemes

After the incident, the company was branded a pyramid scheme and scam by most media sources. This is not the case because the company had worked through the decades to achieve its success. The company empowered the people living in Rochester by providing them with employment and several charity runs. It is also inappropriate PR to brand him as so because Mr. Guck has an extensive portfolio of companies he has worked for and with.

3. He did not admit guilt

Many people assumed that Mr. Guck was found guilty, but in fact, he was the one who pleaded guilty. Contrary to popular belief Mr. Guck did plead guilty to the conspiracy of committing wire fraud. His commitment to values such as integrity and honor were reflected in his plea because he was expected to pay up to $780,000. However, this did not stop him from stepping up.

4. He is a criminal

The indictment had 37 charges and the US District Judge David Larimer agreed that Mr. Guck had not been significantly involved in the process compared to the other two codefendants. It is a common misconception that when an individual is tried and taken to prison, or has to stand in front of the DOJ, they become a criminal. However, this could not be further from the truth. Mr. Guck is a completely honorable man as professed by the district judge when assessing his activities with non-profit organizations.

5. He is not a professional

Among some of the misunderstandings is that Mr. Guck is not a professional. However, this is a false accusation because the man has been a respected businessman for over two decades. This is a reflection of true dedication and high-level professionalism.

6. He does not care about his investors

Here is another popular wildly inaccurate description of the man. Mr. Guck has worked as a sales coach and marketing advisor for many individuals and companies alike. He understands and respects every bit of effort placed in the acquisition of wealth. This can be seen necessarily in his heartfelt farewell letter to the 5Linx family after the indictment. The letter is a testament to his connection to the entire workforce as well as the company’s board of investors.

7. He has been in jail for a long time

According to Federal recommendations of the case, Mr. Guck and his codefendants would have faced up a five-year sentence. However, the District Judge thought the guidelines were excessive and significantly reduced their sentences. His codefendants received a 14-month sentence while he received 7 months. Most people would have assumed that they all received the same time. However, Mr. Guck received a very light sentence because he was negligibly involved with the case and also because he actively participates and brought good to the community.

Jason Guck does not deserve the bad publicity because it is prejudiced against his name in the name of a good story. It is fairly common for the media to lose itself in a frenzy and unfairly attack an individual, especially one who had built a positive image of themselves to the community. Well, now you know about the prejudice against Jason Guck.
