What a great feeling it is to be apart of such an amazing organization, with great leadership and passion for such a meaningful cause. Partnering with the Golisano Children’s Hospital, the Beach Hockey Classic foundation has been raising money to build a game room for the kids staying at the hospital. This room will Honor Patrick J. Carr.
Anyone that met Patrick knew he was special and knew he was here for a greater purpose. Patrick had a great passion for sports and he loved to play hockey. Chemo treatments, operations, it didn’t matter- you were not going to keep him off the ice. Patrick’s mom told us he would always say “I’m not sick. I just have cancer.” Nothing could stop him from living his life to the fullest.
The Beach Hockey Classic is an annual charity event in remembrance of this brave 11 year old boy, Patrick J. Carr. Although originally intended to give Patrick a day he would never forget, we lost our “Lil’ Fighter” just days prior to the first BHC.
BHC is a day for families, friends, supporters and participants to have fun, socialize and come together for a great cause. For the last three years, this event has been one of the most memorable and exciting charity events the Rochester community has experienced.
Teams and players travel from all over the United States and Canada for this day of fun & competition for the “Sandley Cup,” BHC’s version of the Stanley Cup. Players range from 10 year old boys, to actual NHL players! Not only are we lucky enough to have Shane Prince of the NY Islanders as one of our board members, but he also participates in the tournament. We’re thankful to have had some other great NHL players attend the event too, such as NY Islanders’ Stephen Gionta, Buffalo Sabres’ Brian Gionta and Ottawa Senators’ Ryan Dzingel & Clarke MacArthur. Having these NHL stars come out for BHC has been great for the kids and definitely something they will remember for the rest of their lives.
Today, the BHC board members had the honor of presenting a check for $18,318 to the Golisano Children’s Hospital today. Our community came together raised over $18,000!!
I want to extend a HUGE thank you to all of the BHC board members, all of our sponsors, all of our volunteers and everyone that came out to enjoy this special day. Without you guys, none of this would be possible. But most of all, I want to thank the Carr family, for bringing such an incredible young man into our lives. He was and will always be an inspiration. Patrick may be gone, but his memory and legacy live on with your continued support.
